    How it works

Statewide mattress recycling program under the Mattress Stewardship Act (SB 1576, 2022), run by the Mattress Recycling Council since Jan. 1, 2025, with DEQ oversight. Mattresses and box springs used in Oregon can be dropped off free at participating permanent collection sites and events; find them with the Bye Bye Mattress locator.

    Cost & rules
    • Mattresses used in Oregon, any condition or age. Not covered: futons, fold-out sofa beds, water beds, air mattresses, crib or bassinet mattresses.
    • Check acceptable items and contact the location before you go.

Before you go

  1. Count each piece separately: mattress, box spring and topper can be priced differently.
  2. Check for moisture, mold or bed bugs; many recyclers refuse damaged bedding.
  3. Confirm per-piece pricing and whether wrapping or an appointment is required.
