  22. Indiana E-Cycle registered collection sites (IC 13-20.5)State program · IndianaIndiana residentsConditions applyCost not listed
    How it works

Indiana E-Cycle is the manufacturer-funded program under the Indiana E-Waste Law (IC 13-20.5, 2009), run by IDEM. Makers of TVs, monitors, laptops, tablets and e-readers must pay for collecting and recycling at least 60% by weight of what they sell to Indiana households. Residents use registered collection sites (solid waste districts, local governments, retailers, nonprofits and recyclers), listed by county in an IDEM PDF. The law neither requires nor prohibits fees, so a site may charge. Since January 1, 2011, households may not put TVs, computers and most other electronics in the trash.

    Cost & rules
    • Take it to an Indiana E-Cycle registered collection site (IDEM lists them by county) or your solid waste management district. Sites set their own rules and may charge, since the law neither requires nor bans fees. Call first to check what they accept.
    • Covered devices include computers and peripherals, fax machines, DVD players and DVD-capable game systems, VCRs, digital photo frames, media and MP3 players, cameras and camcorders, DVRs and cable boxes, and portable GPS units. Most of these are banned from household trash.
    • Indiana E-Cycle covers Indiana households, public schools and small businesses (no more than 100 employees).

Before you go

  1. List each device; operators often price printers, phones and audio equipment differently.
  2. Erase phones and remove memory cards before you drop them off.
  3. Ask whether there’s a per-pound or per-item fee.
