    How it works

City of Newark Public Works collects bulky items at the curb by appointment (call 302-366-7000), on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays. Residents inside city limits get two collections a year at no cost; fees apply for more than four items or very heavy items. Mattresses and box springs must be wrapped and sealed in plastic; refrigerator doors must be removed. Paint (other than dried-out latex cans), hazardous waste and tires are not taken.

    Cost & rules
    • Must be wrapped and sealed in plastic; unwrapped units are not collected.
    • Call Public Works at 302-366-7000 to schedule; put items out by 7 am, not before 6 pm the night before.
    • Before you go: Wrap and seal in plastic.

Before you go

  1. Count each piece separately: mattress, box spring and topper can be priced differently.
  2. Check for moisture, mold or bed bugs; many recyclers refuse damaged bedding.
  3. Confirm per-piece pricing and whether wrapping or an appointment is required.
