City of Valdez Solid Waste Department: the City Baler Facility at 500 S. Sawmill Drive (907-835-2356), open 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Monday–Saturday, and the Environmental Operations Station, which collects household hazardous waste, paints and oils. Batteries can be recycled at the Baler.

Seasonal City of Valdez program (first offered recently) taking scrap metal free at the City Baler Facility, 500 S. Sawmill Drive, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Monday–Saturday. Accepts metal appliances (microwaves, washers, dryers, refrigerators with doors and coolant removed), metal furniture, tools, pipe and more. Call the Baler (907-835-2356) before hauling more than a truckload.
Cost & rules
- Doors and coolant must be removed.
- Seasonal program; check that it is running before you go.

Refrigerant must be removed by a certified technician; ask whether the operator handles that and what it costs.
Empty and clean it, and ask whether doors must be removed or taped shut.
